Vertical waffle

Pattern: Vertical Waffle from More Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch.
Yarn: The Natural Dye Studio. Blue-faced Leicester.
Needles: 2.5mm
I very nearly caught the dreaded Second Sock Syndrome with these. I’m not normally susceptible to it, but I didn’t exactly fall in love with either the yarn or the pattern. That said, I quite like the finished item. I’ve used this yarn before, but this colourway was different. It felt so coarse to knit with! Also, the socks are slightly different shades but I can live with that.
This was my only knitting success today. Ever have days when you just can’t get your head round it? I’ve cast on and ripped two other projects already. The first was the new Knitty shawl, Seascape. I love the pattern and thought I’d have a go with the Kidlin I picked up in Florida. Hmmm. I know this yarn gets rave reviews on Ravelry but it may take some time to grow on me. Think Kid Silk Haze with extra ‘nuisance’ factor. Then I tried Meida’s socks from Favourite socks. These weren’t working for me either so more ripping. Given up now – going to take the kids to the fairground instead!
On a positive knitting note, I won the competition on Gabriella’s blog! The first one I’ve ever entered too. Watch this space for a little Joli comp soon. I’ll be doing something to celebrate 6 months and 100 posts!

They look great. I have one rainy day sock off the needle this week and must co for the 2nd one before that syndrome hits me too!
Congrats on the competition, that will be a nice package in the mail.
Beautiful as usual!
Love the color
I love this color! I would have to agree that these came out quite nicely!
totally fabulous socks.
and congrats on the win.
Congrats! I will have to spend some time thinking of some cool stuff to send you!
Great socks
i love the color on those socks. and look forward to seeing the shawl.
The socks do look very sweet though, and practical. Don’t you find that sometimes the things that you wear most aren’t the ones that were the most fun to make?
Congratulations on winning the competition!
Oh, and I love the flowery quilt in your photo.
I think these are really lovely! Beautiful colours in the yarn too. You make such beautiful things. (and share them with fab photos)
Congrats on your win! Love the socks…
